An introduction
There are a few of things worth mentioning about the wording of this meditation. First thing, I will use the word ‘imagination’. Do not feel you must be able to ‘see’ something. Just ‘pretend’ or just get a ‘feeling’ for it. When you ‘pretend’ to be receiving this ‘magic light’ or living light (with a little sincerity for a healthy outcome), you are beginning the process of opening yourself; whether you are aware of it or not.
Don’t try to measure the value, depth or effectiveness of any given prayer/meditation. Appreciate how little we know about the bigger picture and even about the depths of ourselves. Give your prayer/meditation time to help you.
Eventually, we might find ourselves simply longing to open ourselves to the connection with Life; regardless of what ‘experience’ comes of it. Our trust will run that deep.
Using this exercise
We plan to make a recording of this exercise and you will be able to activate from this article. Until then, you can
- read it bit by bit and practice each of the bits until you can make a whole
- read this exercise carefully and just have a go. Re-read it each time you practice this and you will quickly use all the pieces described.
The exercise
You can do this or any other pray/med with your eyes opened or closed. Most prefer closed.
Start the pray/med with inviting the Teacher(s) to support and guide you.
Bring your attention to your chest. As if you are simply standing in the chest and receiving each breath as it comes in and letting each one go out. Just welcome/ receive the breath and let it go. Don’t control it. It will take a few breaths for you to be able relax with this. Many people, when they focus on the breath, start controlling at first.
Breath coming, breath going; and you are just receiving and saying goodbye. When you remember, connect to the Teacher(s); allow their presence to be part of the experience.
Now open your heart – or imagine you can. Either is fine. So now you are receiving each breath with your open heart and letting each breath go with the heart. So, each breath is energising your heart.
Imagine there is a light, a living light* that comes in with each breath. This light will feed you and help you. the Teacher(s) can use this light to nurture you.
Now begin to follow your breath. Stay in the Heart Centre but follow the breath
Follow where it touches physically or where it touches you personally.
Imagine the light within the breath knows where to go and what it needs to do to help you…
If at any point you are distracted by thoughts or other preoccupations; don’t fight with it. Just return to your chest and the connection to your heart, the breath, the light and the Teacher(s) when you can.
So, follow the breath; like following the light; let it touch you while leaving your heart open and available to that breath & light.
Appreciate that the Teacher(s) are using this light; traveling with this light; to heal and clean and nourish what is needed in you.
Whether you experience hardness or softness, cut-off-ness or vulnerability; trust the breath; trust your heart; trust the light and trust the Teacher(s).
When you have done the 20 or 40 0r 60 minutes that you intended; very slowly open your eyes. Give yourself time to come back. When you are finished, acknowledge the Teacher(s) for their help
